The skinny: The Trojans are the clear favorite here. They've already defeated Somerset twice during the regular season and bear Bedford by 35 points.
Prediction: Greater Johnstown over Somerset.
Girls
Teams: 1. Forest Hills (17-4), 2. Ligonier Valley (13-5), 3. Westinghouse (13-9), 4. Carrick (10-8), 5. Huntingdon (7-9), 6. Greater Johnstown (6-16).
Defending champion: Hollidaysburg.
Players to watch: Casey Gallaher, Caitlin Gallaher (Forest Hills), Maddy Grimm, Kyre Ludwig (Ligonier Valley), Tara Smith (Huntingdon), Tashayla Smith, Lexi Lindrose (Greater Johnstown).
The skinny: Forest Hills and Ligonier Valley moved up from Class AA and are the clear-cut favorites here in this interdistrict bracket. District 8's Westinghouse played a challenging schedule outside the City League. Carrick sports a winning record but it lost to several small-school WPIAL teams during the regular season.
Prediction: Ligonier Valley over Forest Hills.

APB, Where are they now? Bill Benbow
Well, thanks to some tips from readers The Varsity Club discovered that the subject of its most recent All Points Bulletin – former Greater Johnstown quarterback Brian Mangiafico – is living in the Baltimore area where he is a teacher.

As The Varsity Club continues its quest to track down former area standouts, we shift our focus to Bedford County, where we're looking for former Bedford High standout Bill Benbow.
A 1994 PIAA champion in the 100-meter dash for the Bisons, Benbow racked up some eye-popping numbers as a multi-purpose running back in the early 1990s. In three years of varsity basketball, Benbow scored 712 points.
His biggest impact came in football, where Benbow shared 1993 Tribune-Democrat Offensive Player of the Year honors with Bishop McCort's Artrell Hawkins. Benbow's performance at Westmont Hilltop during his senior year still echoes through the Bedford Valley.
Benbow played briefly at Edinboro University but reportedly had offers from several Division I programs.

Three up
Bishop Carroll boys basketball
The only thing that can stop the Huskies? Snow.
Bishop Carroll is 5-0 in LHAC Section 1 and owns wins over Johnstown and Penn Cambria the past week.
Northern Cambria boys basketball
The Colts got off to a slow start. Forget about that.
Northern Cambria looks a lot like the team that won the District 6 Class A title last year. Its coming off a thorough victory over Ligonier Valley, the last team to beat NC.
1,000-point scorers
There's been a rush of 1,000-point career scorers the last few weeks. Last night, Northern Cambria's Adam Polites hit the milestone. Up next, Portage junior Olivia McCabe is five points shy.

The Tribune-Democrat sports staff had three games scheduled for Friday night – Bishop Carroll at Richland, Bishop Guilfoyle at Somerset and Penn Cambria at Greater Johnstown.
What could have been one of the best nights of the basketball season was wiped out.
Bedford basketball
The Bisons wrestling team is strong, but the basketball programs at Bedford are struggling. The boys and girls teams have combined for three victories.
Northern Cambria girls sports
Not too long ago, the Colts were a PIAA power in volleyball and basketball. Both programs have experienced uncharacteristically down seasons.

APB, Where are they now?
Sadly, The Varsity Club's first All Points Bulletin issued for former Windber multi-sport standout Paul Romanchock – one of this blogger's favorite high school athletes – went unanswered.
Undaunted, The Varsity Club bounces back with another.
This week's All Points Bulletin is issued for former Bedford standout Josh Baker.
In 1997, Baker earned first team Associated Press Small School (AA-A) honors as an offensive lineman. A year earlier, Baker was a third team small school as an offensive lineman.
In the 1998 Ken Lantzy game, Baker earned MVP honors as a defensive lineman.
Baker was also an accomplished wrestler. As a senior, he placed second in Class AA in the heavyweight division at the PIAA championships.
